While many of you realize by now that TRNSCNDNT is more about curating music and posting new releases, this semester I am taking a class called New & Emerging Media in which we are assigned to create a blog and make posts, etc. Conveniently I will continue to use TRNSCNDNT for this assignment but it will require me to start writing a bit more. To achieve this, here is a small list of some of the top tracks of the month so far, although I’m sure the rest of February will still hold many good new additions as well.
Cashmere Cat – With Me / Party Girls
If you haven’t figured it out by now, at the moment I am obsessed with this Norwegian kitty producer. Cashmere Cat, aka Magnus August Høiberg, has recently signed to LuckyMe records, been premiered on Zane Lowe’s show on BBC Radio1, and dropped a huge track featuring Ludacris, Wiz Khalifa, and Jeremih. While many still believe him to be a female producer, this immensely growing popularity should help people figure out his identity. He just released his new EP Wedding Bells, which features “With Me” and more. You can buy it now over at iTunes. Expect many good things to come from this guy in the future.
SBTRKT – Hold The Line
After remaining fairly quiet since his 2011 self-titled debut album, SBTRKT has broken the silence recently on Mary Anne Hobbs’ BBC Radio 6 program and confirms that he has been working on another album along with an instrumental series. “Hold the Line” is part of this instrumental series and gives us a glimpse of what 2014 may have in store for the masked producer. Below is the note he left for Hobb‘s to go along with the premier of the track.
“These tracks will form a collection of vinyl 12″s before my next album and its singles, maybe a digital release, too. They’ll be out in a couple of months. All instrumental stuff along the lines of the music I put out on Ramp or the early Young Turks releases.”
It seems as though nearly every single human being is attempting to remix Beyoncé’s hit track with Jay-Z. We have already seen Diplo and Kanye West make their marks on the song, but now we are blessed with The Weeknd‘s take. Last week to celebrate his 24th birthday, The Weekend, aka Abel Tesfaye, released his own remix. Rather than just adding in his own verses, The Weeknd has completely reworked the original with his signature gloomy style.
Moon Boots – C.Y.S.
French Express producer Moon Boots has quickly been making a name for himself in the music blogosphere and has just dropped a new track at the beginning of the month. Featuring samples from R&B trio Total’s “Can’t You See” (hence the name C.Y.S.), Moon Boots has given it a modern touch and created a track that’ll surely have you bobbing your head.
